Course - Basic Pistol

Description

The Basic Pistol course can take anywhere between 6 and 8 hours depending on the number of students. In it students will get the NRA's The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and intensive lessons in safety, gun handling, the various types of pistols, the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, various pistol firing positions, several practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of pistol sports and activities.

Course Goal

To learn the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely.

Lessons & Topics
 

  1. Safe handgun handling
  2. Pistol knowledge, parts and operation (both Revolvers and Semi-Autos)
  3. Ammunition knowledge including components and function
  4. Fundamentals of Pistol Marksmanship including grip and control
  5. Firing the first shots and the basics on sight alignment
  6. Considerations for the care and maintenance of your handgun
  7. Two-handed and one-handed standing shooting positions
  8. Pistol sports and activities
  9. Becoming proficient with your handgun
  10. LIVE FIRE evaluation

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for taking this course and the material is accessible to appropriately supervised mature children.

Course Completion

Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, course completion certificate, and Lesson Plan.
